What are some ways a Repro Shop might use MetaPrint?
Answer: MetaPrint is extremely flexible and can be configured for any environment using just MetaPrint Professional and the free MetaPrint Client. There are many possible scenarios, but a Repro Shop might use it like this:
- A CAD user where a Repro Shop has on-site services (FM) has the free MetaPrint client installed on her desktop.
- She creates a MetaPrint plot job of 10 drawings - 3 TIFs from as-builts, 4 PDFs from a civil engineering consultant, and 3 DWFs of her own.
- She sends a single check-set to an inkjet plotter on her floor and is prompted for a Project Number and Phase using the AbacusPCR tracking integration in MetaPrint.
- She reviews her check set, all looks good except one print is out of order and she drags it to the proper spot in the set in the MetaPrint job window.
- She submits the same job, but this time selects the staffed FM on the 2nd floor, changes the number of sets to 62 and attaches a MS Excel distribution list, again using the AbacusPCR integration to ensure the correct Project Number and Phase information is attached.
- The job shows up on the 2nd floor and the MetaPrint Acknowledgement queue begins to flash, and the nearby small format printer automatically prints out a work-order telling the FM staff that a new job has arrived.
- The FM staff reviews the job and sees that they would prefer to print this job at the Repro Shop's home office.
- FM staff submits the job to the destination 'Home Office' which sends the job files and instructions over the Internet to the shop's main location.
- The MetaPrint Acknowledgement Queue begins to flash at the home office indicating to the main shop's floor that a new job has come in from an FM.
- They use the load balancing feature in MetaPrint Professional to send half of the job to an Océ TDS700 and another portion to an Océ TDS800. The print the half sizes "two-up" on a KIP 9900.
- When the plots are finished, the job is delivered per the distribution list.
